How to Reach Out for Help
Updated: Apr 18, 2020
As I talked about before, it is a good idea to reach out to friends and family for support. However, this may not be enough to help you during this time. There are plenty of ways to reach out to professional help, and I am going to talk about just a few.
1) For emergencies make sure to call 911
If you or someone else is a risk to themselves or others, call authorities immediately. They are trained to diffuse situations and point people in the direction of immediate help.
2) Schedule over the phone therapy appointments
Here are a few links for video conference and teleservices:

3) Communicate with educators
Many educators like professors, TAs, and LAs are willing to help the best that they can. Make sure to communicate with your educators about your current situation instead of avoiding work. Many understand the current struggles and may provide extensions or other compromises. This is not guaranteed, but if you are feeling overwhelmed, reaching out may help more than you expect. If you do not communicate with them there is no way for them to know you need help!
4) Research options for financial help in your state
If you complete a google search for financial help in your state, you may find aid that you qualify for. An example of this for California can be found here.
By calling around, you may find more help than you expect with your current financial situation.
Google is a great tool. If you need help, the above resources can be helpful, but you can always find more specific to your scenario by doing some research. Reaching out for help is important, and there are plenty of resources ready to be utilized.
